Outside the box

This past week I flew to Texas by myself. I went for staff training through an organization called Teenpact. There were about 200 teenagers there and I knew no one. I was so nervous and terrified to go.
I am a naturally outgoing and friendly person. I make friends easily and am a naturally confident person. But I was terrified to go. I down-right didn't want to.
I knew I should and I knew I wanted to, but in that moment when I was standing at my gate, ready to board my plane to Texas, that was the last thing I wanted to do. I was terrified... but God was going to use that week to do amazing things in my life.
That week, I grew in so many ways. I learned so many things about myself. I grew in my relationships. I grew in my confidence. I grew in my ability to be comfortable in my uncomfortableness. But most importantly I grew in my relationship with God and my love for Him. God knew I needed this trip and I needed the break and revival. I needed to worship Him without abandon. And I did.
But now, I am sitting here thinking about what would have happened if I decided to let my fear take control and I didn't want to go? If I wanted to stay in my comfort zone instead of doing something that stretched me and made me grow? If I wanted to stay in my safe little Pennsylvania town instead of flying across the country not knowing anyone? If I had done the easy thing?
If I had done the easy thing, I wouldn't be where I am now. I wouldn't have grown to the place I am and I wouldn't have grown in the ways I did. And now, looking back, I am SO thankful and glad that not only did I have the opportunity to go, but that I did.
My purpose for telling you this, is to encourage you to step outside your box of comfort, to step outside your comfort zone. God has amazing things in store for each and every one of you, but you have to step out of the box to see some of them. You can't access all the amazing things from your comfort zone. And as you step outside of your box, it will grow just a little bit bigger.
"Don't be afraid, just have faith." Mark 5:36
So this week, go do something out of your comfort zone. God can do amazing things outside of your box, you just have to believe it and have faith. Go make your box a little bigger!
