After the Hype

It's December 27, 2017 today, and it's a Wednesday. Overall, it's a pretty average day. Christmas was 2 days ago. New Years is in 5 days. You just finished one of the most hyped up holidays of the year. Within a week, you have another exciting holiday. Schools are out and you have a nice winter break ahead of you. Maybe you got to spend time with your family for the holiday. You probably got some presents. There was good food, and probably a lot of it. It's the most wonderful time of the year, right?

But, now it's December 27th. I don't know about you, but there's probably some let down. With me it just subconsciously happens... by about 6 o'clock on Christmas night all of our festivities are over, family has left, and all presents are exchanged... and it's a let down.

Every year, I try hard for there to not be any let down, and to focus on the real reason for the season. Can I be honest, sometimes that's so hard!

I go through the motions, I go to Christmas Eve service, I read the story of Jesus's birth, I post my Christmas Instagram post with a bible verse caption. I know it's not about the presents or Santa, but still, there is this let down.

Christmas is one of the most hyped up holidays of the year, if not the most hyped up. I try so hard to remember the true meaning of Christmas - that God sent down his Son, to become a man because He had a plan. He knew that we needed Jesus because we were broken people, and that Jesus was supposed to die on the cross 33 years later, to save us from our sins forever.

I remember all of that. If that's what the true meaning of Christmas is about, which I know it is, then why am I disappointed when Christmas Day celebrations end? Jesus didn't just come for a day. He came for years and years and He came with a purpose. Without Jesus coming, we would never be where we are now, and we would have NO hope. We are human and we deal with human emotions after weeks and weeks of hype, food, planning, family, decorations, and festivities, and then we sit in the middle of a postseason let down forgetting that JESUS is the only true meaning of the season.

Jesus, the King of Kings, The Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, came as a baby, the most vulnerable state there is because He wanted you and I and He saved you and I. Yes, Christmas Day is over, but the love and power of that story isn't.

So during the Christmas let down, remember that Jesus didn't just come for a day. There's no let down. The most important gift you ever have and ever will receive is already here and it's not going anywhere.

If you are anything like me, it is always a good song that helps you grab hold onto Jesus. Let the love of our Savior fill your life with it's purpose and joy. - Liz

You are loved! Live fearlessly!
