My Beautiful Obsession

What are you thinking about? Seriously, what is on your mind? I'm currently thinking about all the assignments I have to do, about the craziness of my schedule, as I'm highly tempted to watch some Netflix. Earlier today the hopeless romantic in me was daydreaming about the beauty of being in love. As you go throughout the day where does your mind wonder? What are you obsessed with or obsessing over?

Life is moving on all around us. As we try to accomplish all that is on our to do lists something is always on our minds. Some of us are day dreamers, spending all day dreaming about our futures. Some of us are warriors, fighting the inclination to take every weight of the world on our own shoulders in attempts to take control. Some of us are consumed with thoughts on work, school, family, friends, or even the color of the sky. Where does your mind wander? For those of you who have been in love, seen someone fall in love, or just watched a lot of romance movies, think of the desire one has for another while falling and being in love. I'm sure most of you have witnessed the stage of obsession in a relationship before. When they spend every free moment together, plans start to depend on the other person's schedule, and they simply desire to be in the presence of the other. Now I'm not saying loving obsession is wrong in a relationship. I actually think it is quite cute. If it isn't our overarching obsession.

No matter the relationships or obsessions that walk in or out of my life I will always have my first love. My beautiful obsession, my burning passion, whom I always need and could never get enough of, my Savior, my Abba, my Lord, Jesus Christ. Now this might seem extreme and like a lot of Jesus being thrown down your throat but I encourage you to keep reading because this isn't a post on my perfection, cause y'all I'm just a mess with a Messiah.

This simple poem based off a Shane & Shane song has become my prayer.

Holy design, this place in time, that I might seek and find my God. I want to yearn for You. I want to burn with passion over You and only You. Your joy is my strength. You give life and breath in You we live and move that’s why I sing. Lord, I know I need you but more than that want to yearn for You. Be my first love, my beautiful obsession. Just as a lost sheep I know that I will stray from you, but how I crave your presence. You fill my heart with joy unspeakable, giving my life purpose. My savior, my comforter, my all-in-all, I'll never get enough of you, my King.

Let's become a body that yearns for our Creator. I'm just as guilty because so often I put so much ahead of Christ and become obsessed with the world and tasks around me. That the thing about yearning and being obsessed is something that continues to grow but it also something that can fade. Whether you notice it or not what you are obsessed with or obsessing over in your life currently is something you are working towards. You let it consume your thoughts. Just as we focus on our to do list we must focus on Christ. You wouldn't expect someone to magically fall in love with you without getting to know you, focusing on you, and spending time with you. If someone falls in love with you without spending time with you that isn't love and I would suggest you run the other way.

As you embark on this next week find ways to spend time with your first love and experience the true unconditional love of your Creator.
